“Get Ready to Rock Your Boudoir Session with These Mindset and Self-Care Tips”
Hi, gorgeous! Are you curious about preparing for a boudoir session and want to know what you can do to make the experience the absolute best ever? Yes?! Then you’re in the right place. There are lots of physical things that you can prepare, like outfits, hair, makeup, etc, but another big part that is often overlooked is the inside prep. Loving on yourself and getting into the right frame of mind. I know that a boudoir session can seem like an intimidating and nerve-wracking experience but it doesn’t have to be. I mean, sure, most everyone gets pre-session jitters – BUT if you adopt any of these techniques/ideas you’ll be on your way to feeling more confident and hopefully at least a little less nervous when it comes time to rock that boudoir session!
At Bella Luce Boudoir, a boudoir photography studio in Orfordville, WI, I specialize in empowering women and helping them embrace their confidence, beauty, and self-love. Whether you’re located in Janesville, Beloit, Madison, Rockford or anywhere else in southern Wisconsin or Northern Illinois, I will help you feel comfortable and confident in front of the camera.
So, how do you start preparing for a boudoir session? Here are some tips to get you started!
1. Focus on Self-Care and Self-Love
Before your session, it’s super important to focus on taking care of yourself both physically and mentally. Confidence and self-acceptance/love come through very clearly in photos. Especially boudoir photos. Here are a few ideas to connect with and love yourself:
- Get out in nature – take a walk and soak in all the beauty around you.
- Practice gratitude. Try to think of at least a few things you are thankful for each and every day. I usually do this right before I fall asleep.
- Treat yourself to a massage.
- Get a mani and pedi!
- Meditate – this can be as simple or elaborate as you want. You can dedicate an entire hour or just 5 minutes. The easiest way that I’ve found is look on Youtube for a guided meditation, pop in your earbuds, and go all-in for however many minutes you choose. The goal is to relax and connect with yourself.
- Drink a lot of water. Sure, if you’re not used to that much water, you’ll pee a LOT at first, but it doesn’t last forever! LOL! ..the benefits are incredible. More energy, more focus, WAY less bloat, less aches and pains. It’s the perfect way to feel great in your body.
- Eat what your body needs! I am SO not an expert on this, trust me…I love my sweets and am a plus-size gal – but if you take a few weeks before your session to cut down on carbs and increase your intake of fruits and veggies you will see a big difference in the way you feel about yourself. You will be less bloated, have more energy, and just all-around feel good. Whenever I do this – I feel a lot slimmer and healthier in a very short period of time- it’s crazy! Just remember that water, too!
- Move your body! Anything counts. Put some music on and dance around your living room! Go for that walk I talked about in the first point. Anything! Even if it’s only 5 minutes – that’s ok.
Remember….this is your time to focus on yourself and your own happiness, so don’t be afraid to go all out!
2. Get Your Mindset Right
Your mindset is just as important as your physical preparation for a boudoir photoshoot. Remember, this is about celebrating your body, your confidence, and your self-love. So, it’s essential to approach your boudoir session with a positive and confident attitude.
- Write down affirmations and motivational quotes to help boost your confidence. Remind yourself that you are beautiful and worthy, no matter what your body looks like.
- Appreciate your body! Every single human sees “flaws” in their body. It’s what makes each of us unique and beautiful. However, instead of focusing negatively on those “flaws”, think of what your body does for you on the daily. It’s truly amazing. Give thanks for that! Love yourself!
Do something out of your comfort zone (ahem…a boudoir session?!). But in all seriousness – doing something that scares you a little (or a lot) helps you see that you are capable and strong. It’ll help you feel better about yourself.
3. Get Ready to have FUN!
It’s important to remember that a boudoir photo session is meant to be fun and empowering! So, let your hair down and enjoy the experience. Not to toot my own horn (Ok, I’m totally tooting it), but I am pretty damn good at making you feel comfortable and confident, so just relax and let yourself have a good time! And, if you’re feeling nervous, take some deep breaths and remind yourself that you got this!
